Vitax switches to BioLPG

9th March 2020

As part of its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, Vitax Limited has invested in a new fleet of forklift trucks at its Skelmersdale production facility as it continues to assess its business operations and look at alternative, sustainable fuel options.

Fuelled by Calor BioLPG, the switch from diesel will help cut Vitax’s greenhouse gas emissions from its forklift trucks by over 30 per cent, leading to a reduction in emissions of over 65 tonnes per year.

The investment follows an on-going review of Vitax’s business and production processes as it looks to source sustainable energy solutions to ensure the company meets its environmental responsibilities.

Vitax received the six BioLPG-fuelled forklift trucks in February and it is already making a huge difference as Carl Welsh, Vitax’s managing director, says: “Traditionally we have always used diesel-fuelled trucks and whilst changing to Calor BioLPG was an environmental decision, we have noticed other benefits such as a reduction in noise, improved air quality and running-cost efficiencies.

“Over the past 12 months we been reviewing every part of the business to see where we can make changes to become more sustainable and help protect the environment for future generations. Switching to Calor BioLPG is just one of the initiatives we are investing in and will be implementing other changes over the coming months.”

Made from a blend of waste, residues and sustainably sourced materials, Calor BioLPG is 100 per cent renewable and chemically identical to conventional LPG.

Using Calor BioLPG not only helps to improve a company’s carbon footprint, but it has no impact on a truck’s performance levels.
